Nate Oats says Alabama is holding scholarship for Aden Holloway at Regions Pro-Am

The Alabama Crimson Tide was at the center of one of the biggest stories in college basketball this past March following the marijuana arrest of star guard Aden Holloway which kept him out of the NCAA Tournament.

Holloway, who is one of the best players on the team, is still dealing with the legal ramifications of the situation and has numerous hurdles to clear before he can get back to basketball, but it does sound like the program thinks he will be back.

During his media availability at the Drummond Company Regions Tradition Celebrity Pro-Am on Wednesday, Oats said that while things still need to be sorted out, the team is saving his spot in anticipation that he will return.

“There’s a lot of stuff he’s got to sort through on the whole legal side of things before we can get to that question,” Oats said when asked about whether or not Holloway will be back. “We’ve got to control the stuff we have control over. We don’t have any control over that. We’re going to let that play out. There will be a scholarship open still once that all clears. Hopefully he’s able to get through that with a positive outcome. We’ve got to let the legal process play through on that before we decide anything.”

Holloway’s arrest came after police found more than two pounds of marijuana in his apartment and given two felony charges of first-degree possession of marijuana, as well as failure to affix a tax stamp before being indicted by a grand jury.

While he obviously needs to get his legal situation sorted, it does sound like Oats has not given up on the player and is hopeful he could be back on the court at some point.
