Former Alabama Crimson Tide star running back Jahmyr Gibbs made some huge history over the weekend.

The Detroit Lions sensation — who left Tuscaloosa to become a first round pick before blossoming into an absolute superstar at the NFL level — signed a three-year contract which made him the highest-paid running back in league history.

Gibbs’ deal is worth up to $75 million and includes a staggering guaranteed $51.5 million right as he prepares for his fourth year in the league, following two campaigns in which he really burst onto the scene. Over the last two years, he has racked up 2,635 rushing yards and over 1,000 receiving yards while finding the end zone an absurd 38 times.

Transferring to Alabama ahead of the 2022 season from Georgia Tech, Gibbs was a huge part of the offense that year with nearly 1,400 yards on the ground and through the air, as well as 10 touchdowns. Though the team would wind up falling short in Bryce Young’s final year at quarterback, Tide fans have fond memories of the electric style and playmaking Gibbs brought to the fold.

It’s just the latest example of the legacy of Nick Saban and the Alabama program continuing to make waves, and now that Gibbs is being paid what he deserves, fans of the Crimson Tide will be excited to continue to watch him do his thing at the next level.
