Jalen Hurts expected to miss remainder of NFL season due to blood clots in lungs

Former Alabama Crimson Tide legendary quarterback Jalen Hurts is expected to miss the remainder of the NFL season for the Philadelphia Eagles after doctors made a frightening discovery.

Hurts was determined to be dealing with blood clots in his lungs, which, according to ESPN, will sideline him for at least three months and potentially longer. His agent and the Eagles franchise released a joint statement saying Hurts has deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli, which means a blood clot traveled from his legs to his lungs.

“Jalen’s prognosis is very good, and we expect a full recovery,” the statement said. “We anticipate that he will have the opportunity to resume contact football activities when off the blood thinners. In the meantime, he will remain active around the team and continue to condition. More importantly, we anticipate that he will have no long-term effects.”

The original diagnosis, a superficial blood clot in his calf, occurred before a loss in London to the Jacksonville Jaguars, a game Hurts played in and threw 40 passes. It was reported that Hurts was in the hospital in London until 4:00 a.m. the morning of the game and did not sleep the night before because he was informed that sleeping posed health risks associated with the clot.

Positively, Hurts’ original clot was considered to be “provoked” from taking a cleat to the calf, which is a better prognosis with treatment and care than had the clot formed on its own.

While this is an extremely scary situation and Hurts will be out for a while, both he and the team seem confident he will in fact make a full recovery, which is great news. Fans will continue to monitor his recovery and hope and pray he can not just make it back on the field, but have a full quality of life and put this terrifying situation behind him.
