Former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson made his NFL debut over the weekend in preseason action for the Los Angeles Rams, and his performance was extremely impressive.

In a 20-12 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, Simpson completed 21 of 25 passing attempts for 190 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. Simpson looked cool, calm and collected operating the Rams’ offense, and while he wasn’t asked to push the ball down the field much, he did an excellent job of keeping the chains moving and getting the offense down the field.

“I thought he read the plays out, read with his feet, I thought he did a really good job overall,” Rams head coach Sean McVay said of Simpson’s performance. “It was a really good day for him, he just felt like he was in good command and it was good to see a smile on his face.”

Simpson was drafted into a little bit of a unique situation given the fact he is not going to be expected to start right out of the gate, with Los Angeles boasting the reigning league MVP in Matthew Stafford at quarterback. This could work to his advantage though, allowing the former Alabama gunslinger the chance to work on his craft and get better before being asked to take over down the line.

It seems Simpson has embraced that role and is already developing nicely in the Rams system. Fans will be watching as he continues preseason action this weekend against the New Orleans Saints.
