Former Auburn Tigers legendary golf star Jackson Koivun continues to turn heads early on in his PGA Tour career.
Though a T-29 finish at this past weekend’s Wyndham Championship was not going to make any massive headlines on its own for Koivun, it was enough to secure his top-70 spot and qualify for the FedEx Cup playoffs.
This moves Koivun into a tie with Tiger Woods for the fewest starts needed to make the FedEx Cup playoffs at just five.
In fact, since the format made the switch to 70 players, no one has been able to make the field with less than 13 starts to their name.

It’s an incredible accomplishment for Koivun, who now gets the chance to compete against the very best players in the world for the $10 million FedEx Cup winner, as well as a $100 million purse structure over the three-tournament playoff event.
Koivun will have to have a huge showing in the St. Jude Championship this week in order to move off the No. 70 spot and into the top-50 for the BMW Championship the following week, as well as staying alive for the pursuit of the TOUR Championship the following week which features only 30 players.
Regardless of whether he can make that happen or not, through just five starts as a professional on the PGA Tour, Koivun has secured both his first win and a spot in the postseason, an absolutely incredible accomplishment for a player of his age and stature.
It’s safe to say golf fans in the state of Alabama have another young star they are going to be able to watch on television for a long time to come.
