Mobile will celebrate America’s 250th anniversary this Fourth of July with one of Alabama’s most patriotic backdrops, the USS Alabama and fireworks.
The City of Mobile’s Fourth of July Celebration will take place Saturday, July 4, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park.
The free, family-friendly event will include live music, food trucks, local vendors, nonprofits, games, family activities and a fireworks show over Mobile Bay.
Fireworks are scheduled for 9 p.m.
This year’s event carries added significance as the United States marks the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Across the country, communities are preparing for America 250 celebrations honoring the nation’s founding and the generations that have carried its ideals forward.
In Mobile, the setting gives the celebration a uniquely Alabama feel.
The USS Alabama, a World War II battleship that served in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters, has stood for decades as one of the state’s most visible symbols of military service, sacrifice and national strength.
The ship is now the centerpiece of USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park, which honors Alabama veterans and draws visitors from across the state and country.
On Independence Day, that setting will host one of the Gulf Coast’s largest patriotic gatherings.
Families are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets for the evening celebration. Admission to the event is free, though parking fees will apply. Visitors should check event information before arriving for parking details and any site rules.
The celebration is part of a broader patriotic weekend across Alabama as communities mark both the Fourth of July and America’s semiquincentennial year.
As the nation celebrates 250 years of independence, Mobile’s Fourth of July gathering will do so beside a battleship that helped defend that freedom during one of the most consequential conflicts in world history.
