One of the Gulf Coast’s premier destinations for tourists is hosting a phenomenal event this weekend to celebrate the Fourth of July and America’s 250th birthday.

Downtown OWA in Foley — a pedestrian-only collection of shopping, dining and entertainment with a small town Alabama feel — is inviting Alabamians to celebrate the OWA way with their Star Spangled 250th Spectacular.

“Watch the 250th Independence Day Parade roll through Downtown OWA, then stick around as live music takes over OWA Island and keeps the energy going into the evening,” an announcement from OWA read. “End the night with a fireworks show that brings the celebration to a perfect close.”

The day will include fun events like the Red, White, & Chew Watermelon Eating Competition on OWA Island where kids will kick it off from 5:15–5:30 pm racing to finish 1/16 of a watermelon followed by an adults contest where 1/8 of a watermelon will be the challenger.
