Tuberville defends Trump’s anti-weaponization fund: Opponents ‘didn’t say a PEEP’ about billions to Ukraine

U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) believes many of his colleagues in Congress are being hypocrites when it comes to their opposition to the “anti-weaponization” fund set up by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).

Earlier this month, Acting U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche announced the creation of a $1.776 billion fund that will be used to compensate “victims of lawfare and weaponization.” This action was part of the settlement of a $10 billion lawsuit filed by President Donald Trump and his family against the IRS.

Democrats and some Republicans are worried about this money going to those who participated in the Capitol riots on January 6, 2021.

Tuberville, who is also running to be Alabama’s next Governor, defended the fund on X.

“The same members who have an issue with President Trump’s anti-weaponization fund to help innocent Americans didn’t say a PEEP when they voted to send BILLIONS of your taxpayer dollars to Ukraine,” Tuberville said. “We cannot allow our government agencies to be weaponized against our OWN citizens, or our country won’t last. It’s time to put personal feelings aside and do the right thing for Americans.”

The senator also discussed the issue during Fox News Channel’s “The Big Weekend Show,” implying the several senators were still bitter about Trump endorsing Ken Paxton in Texas’ U.S. Senate Primary.

“[O]ne thing I want to say is, we do not stick together, unfortunately, like the Democrats do,” he argued. “But here is what happened — obviously had an election this past week. We had one of our senators that’s been there for a while that President Trump did not endorse. He lost his seat. Things got personal. They got personal real quick. I don’t love it was Todd Blanche or that weaponization built that they wanted to add to reconciliation, I think there were just some hard feelings. But it is usually the same ones, usually the same ones. Most of them really do not like President Trump.”

Tuberville also help block The No Rewards for January 6 Rioters Act put forward by U.S. Sen. Alex Padilla (D-Calif.).

“Democrats claim this bill is about stopping so-called ‘rewards’ for January 6th rioters,” he said on the floor of the Senate last week. “But in reality, the legislation says if the federal government prosecuted you, Congress can’t even ask if the prosecution was fair; if the sentence was appropriate; if the evidence was handled properly; if detention conditions were lawful; or whether the government threw the book at you because you are supportive of a political opponent.”
