U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) says he wants to be Alabama’s next governor because of the rise of socialism in America.
Tuberville, who is the Republican nominee for Alabama Governor, is facing off against former U.S. Sen. Doug Jones in November, and believes the contest is about more than just Democrat vs Republican.
“I’m not running against Doug Jones. I’m running against an ideology that is sweeping the country, and it’s socialism and communism,” Tuberville said Wednesday on WVNN. “And it starts with number one: open borders. They want to open the borders. They want more people here where they can remain in power, Doug Jones is one of those.”
Tuberville believes that his opponent represents things antithetical to the values of most Alabamians.
“I don’t know why, but now he’s running for governor, and he is totally opposite of anything that I I believe in,” he argued. “I believe in our state and our country, and I don’t want to change it to socialism, and I want law and order. And we’re going to have that. That’s going to be my first thing on the agenda.”
The senator also reacted to Jones wanting to “phase out” the school choice program in the state.
“We’re going to have the better education, that the the to be able to choose the school you want to go to,” he said. “To me, that’s an American idea, and that is freedom of speech. That’s freedom of doing what you want to. I used to tell all my players that listen, this country doesn’t owe you anything other than opportunity, and that opportunity is to have an education, especially where you feel like you fit in. And so, I am all for the having an opportunity. Kids go to the school that they want to go to, but there’s so many things that we have to do in our state to get us get us on track.”
Tuberville said he will continue to push back against socialist policies being promoted by the Democratic Party.
“You know this this socialist communist agenda that all these Democrats have now, all of them do, and he’s one of them is not going to work in our state, and and you know he can keep pushing it all he wants, but again, it’s just it’s not him,” he said. “It’s the ideas that are behind him that would just overwhelm the state of Alabama if he were to even have a chance to get elected.”
