Alabama and Auburn have always had a national rivalry on the football gridiron, but over the last decade, it’s extended to the basketball court. Now, both programs have become nationally relevant and brought roundball popularity back to the state.

With the success has come star players, and as it turns out, two of the biggest from each school are now teammates at the Philadelphia 76ers — Alabama former superstar Labaron Philon Jr. and Auburn legend Johni Broome.

With NBA Summer League starting this week, young players get the chance to prove themselves, and Philon and Broome got their first taste of being teammates.

Despite the rivalry between the two, their chemistry is looking on point. In Philon’s Summer League debut, he found Broome with an insane pass that led to a huge slam for Broome in a sight that made Tide and Tiger fans scratch their heads.

Both players wound up putting up some big numbers as well, with Broome scoring 19 points with 13 rebounds and two blocks in 27 minutes. Philon, meanwhile, had 18 points of his own with seven assists and three rebounds while playing 29 minutes.

At the end of the day, both young players are going to have a whole lot to prove if they want to find themselves playing major minutes once the regular season begins, but showing they might have an unexpected level of chemistry is a huge first step towards making that happen.
