The Clemson Tigers were on the wrong end of an absolute beat down at the hands of Lane Kiffin’s LSU Tigers, and coming off a rough 2025 season, Dabo Swinney is starting to feel the pressure.

Swinney, who has been resistant for years to adapt to the changing times in college football, including NIL and utilizing the transfer portal, was asked this week whether or not he regrets the way he constructed his roster this offseason after being outclassed 51-10 by LSU.

Emphatically, Swinney says it’s only one game into the season and he does not have regrets.

“No I don’t, I regret being 0-1 right now,” Swinney said after chuckling that the reporter was trying to create a negative headline. “Can you ask me that at the end of the season? The season isn’t over. We got one game, we’ve got 11 more. What if we go 11-1?  Do you promise me you’ll ask me that again? Then I’ll answer it.

“I’m not answering questions like that…But we played one game.”

Swinney got a little bit testy with the reporter, and after a year in which the Tigers went 7-6 and he essentially dared the Clemson administration to fire him after a tough start to the year, the idea that he may not be around for the rest of his career is starting to sound not all that crazy.

For as successful as he has been throughout his run as the Tigers’ head coach, it’s undeniable that the game has begun to pass him by and Clemson has not been a legitimate national title threat since 2020.

The game against LSU was not just a blowout, it was a complete obliteration where Swinney’s team was dominated in every single facet. It may have been the perfect representation of the old guard versus new in terms of the way each program operates.

While he is correct that there’s plenty of season left, the seat is getting a little bit warm at the very least for Swinney at Clemson.
