The LSU Tigers are apparently not on the SEC’s chopping block anymore, at least not for now.

After some absolutely wild reports this week that the conference leaders would hold a vote Thursday to determine whether or not they would remove LSU from the conference in the wake of Lane Kiffin’s attempt to add former NFL players to the roster, the program backed down and locked in their roster without the players on Wednesday.

According to reports which surfaced Wednesday after LSU finalized its roster, the agenda for the meeting no longer included a vote to expel the school.

LSU’s expulsion from the conference is no longer expected to be an agenda item during Thursday’s SEC presidents meeting, sources tell @YahooSports.

As part of legal discussions, conference representatives have conveyed this to LSU officials and other league members.

Ross Dellenger reported the fact that there was “productive communication” between LSU and the SEC in the 24 hours after the Tigers de-escalated the situation by backing down from their attempt to add the players.

Whether or not these discussions were actually serious or not from the part of the conference may never be known, but it was clear that LSU ruffled some feathers in the SEC and had to backtrack in order to put this entire controversy to bed.

Moving forward, hopefully the Tigers and the conference alike can just focus on the game with the season now in full swing.
