Moore vs Hudson: Candidates spar over experience during Shelby County candidate forum

U.S. Rep Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) and former Navy Seal Jared Hudson continue their appeal to voters at events across the Yellowhammer State.

Both candidates for the U.S. Senate participated in the Shelby County Runoff Candidate Forum held in Pelham Alabama Tuesday.

Moore finished first last week in the seven-candidate Republican primary field with 39.18% of the vote, while Hudson secured the second runoff spot with 25.63%.

“My number one job is to protect your liberty, and as you watch over time, as we see people who, when they commit a crime, we lock them up, guys,” Moore said at the forum. “The one thing we do in America: if you commit a crime, we take away your freedom. Why on earth would we elect people who will go to Washington, D.C. and voluntarily give away your freedom? I got a 96 Liberty score. Coach has got a 95 Nobody in delegation has been that close to protecting your liberty.”

Hudson hit back, admitting that he doesn’t have any experience as a member of Congress, but does have life experience to get the job done.

“I appreciate that Congressman Moore has a great Liberty Score,” Hudson said. “I haven’t had the opportunity to earn a Liberty Score, but I can tell you that I’ve scored 21-0 against the Taliban over 60 combat operations.”

One of the main issues discussed at the event was illegal immigration, with both candidates campaigning on strong border security.

“Just a few weeks ago, I dropped the Americans First Immigration Act,” Moore explained. “It’s the Immigration Accountability Project. I’m rated number one in the nation on immigration accountability. Codifies five of President Trump’s policies, executive orders on immigration.”

“I have dropped five of President Trump’s executive orders that are currently being voted on,” Moore added. “They will be moved through as law for the United States of America to secure the US southern border. The border room under Joe Biden was basically a Disney Fast Pass. People poured across here, and as we’re cleaning up this mess, it’s important that we actually codify President Trump’s executive orders, because the next guy with a pen and phone, it’s going to undo everything we’ve done if we do not codify these executive orders.”

Hudson also made the argument that he will put Alabama first instead of putting Washington D.C. first.

“When you move to DC, you become DC, but my wife, right there, my three beautiful little girls will stay right here in Alabama, and home is where your heart is,” Hudson said. “And I can tell you, my heart is going to be with him, making sure that you don’t become part of the swamp when you’re taking on the swamp, is of the utmost importance, and that’s how you can make a change. Yes, one man can make a change.”

The Alabama Senate runoff is set for Tuesday, June 16. The winner will face the Democratic nominee in the November 3 general election.

Voters who pulled a Republican ballot Tuesday or who did not vote in the primary are eligible to vote in the runoff.
