Moore and Hudson advance to June 16 Alabama Senate runoff as Marshall concedes

U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) and former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson advanced to a June 16 runoff in the Alabama Senate Republican primary Tuesday night after no candidate cleared the 50% threshold. Attorney General Steve Marshall, who finished just 5,300 votes behind Hudson, conceded Wednesday.

Moore led the seven-candidate field with 39.18% of the vote and 188,825 votes.

Hudson secured the second spot with 25.63% and 123,533 votes.

Marshall finished third with 24.53% and 118,233 votes out of 481,952 total ballots cast.

Moore carried President Trump’s “Complete and Total Endorsement” and won a majority of counties statewide, leading both rivals by double digits. His campaign compared his position to U.S. Senator Katie Britt’s first-round victory in 2022, when she secured over 40% in a crowded field before winning the runoff decisively.

Hudson ran as the outsider in the field, building support among Second Amendment voters and conservatives looking for a candidate outside the political establishment.

A current Alabama law enforcement officer, Marine veteran, and CEO of Covenant Rescue Group, an anti-human trafficking nonprofit, Hudson earned BamaCarry’s endorsement as the only gun rights organization to weigh in on the race. He holds a Federal Firearms License with a Class III SOT, meaning if elected he would be the only sitting U.S. Senator who is a federally licensed firearms dealer.

Marshall ran on his record as attorney general, pointing to his successful fight at the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn the court-imposed congressional map. He was backed by FarmPAC, Alabama sheriffs, and the state’s district attorneys. Marshall will finish his term as attorney general, which ends in January.

The Alabama Senate runoff is set for Tuesday, June 16. The winner will face the Democratic nominee in the November 3 general election.

Voters who pulled a Republican ballot Tuesday or who did not vote in the primary are eligible to vote in the runoff.
