Alabama added another in-state prospect to its 2027 recruiting class Wednesday when Selma High School wide receiver Cedrick Simmons announced he was flipping his commitment from Auburn to the Crimson Tide.

Simmons originally committed to Auburn on June 23 before announcing Wednesday that he was switching his commitment to Alabama. According to 247Sports, the three-star prospect said Alabama “checked off every box” in his decision to play for head coach Kalen DeBoer.

Simmons earned a scholarship offer from Alabama after impressing coaches at a June camp. He later returned to Tuscaloosa for an official visit.

“What really stood out to me was learning about the standard they live by and why they’re always a top team in college football,” Simmons told Touchdown Alabama after the visit.

Simmons said he grew up cheering for the Crimson Tide.

“I watched Alabama,” Simmons said. “I really didn’t have no choice. My daddy is a big Alabama fan. My whole family is big Alabama fans. So, every Saturday, that’s all I saw on TV. That was… my favorite team growing up.”

Simmons is the nation’s No. 55 athlete and the No. 27 overall prospect in Alabama for the 2027 class.

His decision gives Alabama another in-state commitment in its 2027 class after he initially pledged to Auburn.
