Illegal immigrant convicted of manslaughter to be released early in California – Barry Moore’s bill would have prevented that

U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) expressed frustration Thursday after seeing the news that an illegal immigrant is going to be released from prison six years early.

In 2022, Oscar Eduardo Ortega-Anguiano was convicted of two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. According to Fox News, Ortega-Anguiano will be released by California state government on July 19 after serving just 3.5 years of his 10-year sentence.

The Trump administration is planning on filing federal charges against the illegal alien in response to his early release.

“No parent or spouse should have to go through the pain of losing a loved one, especially losing them to someone who is not in our country legally,” Moore said. “This illegal alien should have immediately been deported again and made inadmissible should he try to enter the country again in the future. Instead, California is releasing him from prison six years early.”

Moore’s bill, the Jeremy and Angel Seay and Sergeant Brandon Mendoza Protect Our Communities from DUIs Act of 2025, passed the Judiciary Committee in February. The legislation would deport any alien who has been convicted or admitted to the offense of driving while drunk or impaired.

The congressman believes his bill would prevent liberal states like California from putting these dangerous criminals back on American streets.

“These are the scenarios my bill, the Jeremy and Angel Seay and Sergeant Brandon Mendoza Protect Our Communities from DUIs Act, aims to prevent by requiring the immediate deportation of illegals who are convicted of, or admit to, driving under the influence,” Moore explained. “We must get illegals who commit these offenses out of our communities and off of our streets.”
