The Alabama Republican Party (ALGOP) called Democratic nominee for Alabama Governor, Former U.S. Sen. Doug Jones (D-Mountain Brook), “a hypocrite or a liar or both” on the issue of protecting women’s sports.
When asked about the issue at a recent town hall, Jones said he’s not in favor of allowing biological men in women’s sports.
“I’m opposed to that,” Jones said. “We’ve had a law on the books for a long time, which has support and has been upheld in the courts.”
In response to those comments, ALGOP released a new ad, claiming that the former senator’s record paints a different picture.
“How important is it to Doug Jones that men compete in girls’ sports and undress in girls’ locker rooms? In his own words, very, very important,” the ad says. “While he was in the Senate, Jones fought constantly to destroy girls’ sports, joining the committee where radicals led the war on girls.”

The video then points to several examples of Jones going against Republicans trying to protect sports for girls.
“Jones co-sponsored a bill that weaponized federal funding to force schools to let biological males compete in girls’ sports,” the ad continued.
“He led the charge on another bill that explicitly denied girls protection from males in their restrooms and locker rooms, Jones even celebrated Pride Month by complaining that men weren’t allowed in women’s spaces. Make no mistake, Doug Jones has repeatedly followed through on trying to destroy girls’ sports and privacy. So if Doug Jones now says he’s pro women and girls. He’s either a hypocrite or a liar or both. ”
