Many of Alabama’s political leaders are honoring the life and legacy of Charlie Kirk, an influential conservative activist who was assassinated exactly one year ago.

Kirk, who founded Turning Point USA and became well known for holding political debates on college campuses, was killed by an assassin’s bullet September 10, 2025, during an outdoor event on Utah Valley University’s campus.

Tyler Robinson, then 22, is the man charged with assassinating Kirk. Prosecutors have described the attack as politically motivated and tied it to Robinson’s opposition to Kirk’s views on sexuality, gender, and related issues. They are seeking the death penalty.

“Charlie Kirk spent his career handing the microphone to people who disagreed with him, and the Socialist Left killed him for it,” U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) said. “We will never forget the life and legacy of Charlie. But we also must never forget the sick Leftists who cheered when an innocent father, husband, and Christian patriot was murdered.”

“It’s hard to believe that a year ago today, Charlie Kirk’s life was tragically cut short by an act of leftwing political violence,” U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) said. “His legacy, one of faith, courage, and passion for engaging the next generation, left a profound mark on our country while he was alive and has only grown stronger these past 12 months. Wesley and I continue to pray for Erika, their precious children, and all who loved Charlie. His commitment to our country will never be forgotten.”

Last year, Moore signed onto a letter calling for a statue of conservative political activist and Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk to be placed in the U.S. Capitol building.
