U.S. Sens. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) and Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) are continuing their crusade in Congress to get the SAVE America Act on the Senate floor for a vote.

There has been an internal divide within the Republican Party on how to actually get President Donald Trump’s Voter ID law through the upper chamber. Tuberville has called for ending the filibuster rule, which would get rid of them needing 60 voters to get it passed.
“Our country cannot survive without safe and secure elections,” Tuberville said. “NUKE THE FILIBUSTER and pass the SAVE America Act.”
Others in the GOP believe the best path forward is adding it to a stopgap bill to fund the government, but some are concerned that strategy would only lead to a government shutdown.
Britt said on “Fox News Sunday” that she will continue to “keep pushing” to get the legislation passed.
“People want to know that their elections are safe,” Britt said. “We want to know that our vote counts, and that it is in fact us that gets to vote. I think you see voter ID in 35 to 36 states across the country. We want to work diligently to ensure that we protect and save our election process. So we’re going to keep pushing on this. We’re going to keep pushing on, making sure that only citizens vote.”

The senator thinks too many locations in the country are making it easy to cheat in elections.
“We are seeing from coast to coast examples of places like in D.C., where non-citizens can vote in city elections. We want to make sure that American elections are for American citizens. So we’re going to keep working on what is a pathway forward from that.”
Last week, Trump gave a primetime address from the White House about voter integrity and calling on Congress to pass the SAVE America Act. The speech has just added to the pressure put on Republicans to find a way to get the bill across the finish line.
“I think what you’ve heard from the president obviously was talking about the potential of other actors being involved, and I think we get back to China,” she explained. “China is undermining us at every turn. We’re seeing that in Russia. We’re seeing that with Iran. I think we need to be clear-eyed and, in a bipartisan way, talk very specifically about the threats of China, whether they’re here at home or they’re abroad, and that’s certainly what I appreciate the president doing.”
