Cam Spinks, a local singer from Alabaster, secured a spot on Blake Shelton’s team on “The Voice” Monday night.
Spinks, who grew up helping with his family’s 55-acre domesticated deer farm by building fences and caring for the animals, earned the position by singing “Wave On Wave” by Pat Green.
Of the four judges on the NBC show, both Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton turned their chairs to signal support for Spinks, who then had to make the decision of which team he wanted to join.
Clarkson commended Spinks’ performance, saying his “vibe” was reminiscent of the “country music I love and grew up on.”
“I hear a lot of elements in your voice that I love,” Shelton told Spinks. “You’re in a different area. Maybe more of what Luke Combs is doing.”
Shelton also told Spinks before he made his decision that he “would love to be his coach” throughout the show and said, “Let’s go to Nashville” as Spinks was making his decision.
Spinks, who slowly built his music career by writing several extended play records and selling some of his songs, ultimately chose Shelton to serve as his coach during this season of “The Voice.”
He joins fellow Alabamian Levi Watkins on “Team Blake.”
