UNA twins land bass national championship

As the field battled wind and rain when a popup storm rolled through the region, twin brothers from the University of North Alabama took advantage of homefield to win the 2024 Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship at Pickwick Lake.

Dylan and Carter Nutt of the third-ranked Lions won the national championship tournament, presented by Bass Pro Shops, with a two-day total of 52.36 pounds. Lucas Bowers and Fisher Rodgers from the University of South Carolina made a second day charge and finished in second place.

Nathan Reynolds and Banks Shaw, also from UNA, placed third.

On Day 1, the Nutt brothers weighed in a five bass limit of 27.80 pounds, including the big bass of the day weighing in at 7.87 pounds. On Day 2, the twins put together a string of 24.56 pounds. That five bass limit also included the Overall Big Bass of the tournament, tipping the scales at 8.20 pounds

For the tournament victory, the anglers earned $5,000 as well as contingency awards to include $1,000 ACA logo contingency, $500 T-H Marine Atlas Awards, a Power-Pole for Overall Big Bass, and 2,500 points towards the Bass Pro Shops School of the Year presented by Abu Garcia.

Reynolds and Shaw won $1,500 for finishing third and also claimed the $2,000 top prize for being the highest-finishing Yamaha Power Pay eligible team.

The Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship is the final event of the 2023-24 season for the Association of Collegiate Anglers on the Bass Pro Shops Collegiate Bass Fishing Series. The tournament was also the final ACA event to count toward the Bass Pro Shops School of the Year presented by Abu Garcia.
