Auburn is 3-1 overall and 1-1 in SEC play after a roller-coaster two weeks that included a lopsided loss to Florida and a close home win over Vanderbilt.

Some fans are a bit frustrated with the Alex Golesh era taking a bit longer to take off than folks had hoped, especially as the Gators have gotten off to such a strong start under Jon Sumrall and quickly look like one of the teams to beat in the SEC.

While understandable, Auburn fans should take comfort in the fact that even if it’s going slowly, things are absolutely moving in the right direction under Golesh.

The last five years under both Bryan Harsin and Hugh Freeze, the Tigers program made it a point to not get it done on game day, and especially in the fourth quarter when things are close. Through four games of Golesh, the Tigers have won two one-possession games that, in all likelihood, they would have lost under the previous two administrations.

It was not the cleanest game against the Baylor Bears or Vanderbilt, however, Auburn did enough to rally to victory, and this is just four games into Golesh being in charge of the program. If that is not a sign of major change coming, then nothing else is.

In all likelihood, this was never going to be the Tigers team to completely change the perception of the program around and have Auburn competing for SEC Championships once again. With that being said, Golesh has things moving in the right direction, and fans should take solace in the fact that they have the right coach in place.

Golesh may not be lighting the world on fire instantly, but this is not a fair expectation of any coach, even in the transfer portal era.

He is owed the support and, ideally, the high hopes of the Auburn Family as he begins to turn things around. It was always going to be a process, and that process is just getting started.
