The Alabama Crimson Tide has locked up one of the best athletic directors in the nation.

The University of Alabama System Compensation Committee met on Monday to discuss a two-year contract extension for AD Greg Byrne, among a list of other topics.

Byrne, who was already under contract through the 2030-31 academic year, will now see his deal end after the 2032-33 year. He was last extended in 2024, signing a seven-year deal which brought his salary to an average of $2.09 million throughout the duration of the contract.

Now, Byrne’s locked in at $2.675 million annually, plus performance-based incentives.

“Greg’s tenure at UA has consistent yielded significant academic and athletic success for our student-athletes,” UA president Peter Mohler said. “He has also established himself as a premier leader in college athletics. Greg provides stable force that is pivotal in helping UA both navigate the current environment and chart a course for the future.”

Since being hired in 2017, Byrne has made some huge moves as the AD at Alabama, including hiring Nate Oats, Kalen DeBoer and baseball coach Rob Vaughn, all three of which lead some of the top programs in the nation in their respective sports.

Overseeing unprecedented growth of the department, Byrne is widely considered one of the very best in the country, and clearly the University feels the same way. UA is not going to be letting him go anywhere and Byrne will be in charge of the department for the foreseeable future.
