Former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson is preparing for the NFL Draft next week, and all offseason long, the question as to whether or not he should be a first round selection looms.
While Simpson may or may not hear his name called next Thursday night as a first round pick, he clearly is not lacking in any kind of confidence as he gets set to begin his career in the pros.
Simpson was on with Jon Gruden at Barstool Sports and the former coach asked the gunslinger what teams are getting if they decide to draft him, and he did not hold back:
“A guy who loves football and is loyal and wants to be the best to ever play,” Simpson answered. “A guy who is just infatuated with the game, who loves football and loves being able to be in a locker room, be in a huddle and wants to make not just himself better, but everybody around him better because not only am I a really good quarterback, but a really good leader and I’m a culture changer.”
A clearly impressed Gruden took it a step further, asking Simpson who should be selected No. 1 overall by the Las Vegas Raiders between him and the highly expected pick, Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza.
“You know the answer,” he said.
Simpson clearly has a tremendous head on his shoulders, and while he almost certainly is not going to be drafted ahead of Mendoza, he will have a chip on his shoulder right away as he tries to prove teams who passed on him wrong.
It’s safe to say this entire state will be following his NFL journey closely as Simpson gets ready to make the leap.
