Two years after the assassination attempt against President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville praised Trump for responding to the attack by fighting even harder.
Tuberville (R-Auburn) marked the anniversary Monday with a message recalling the July 13, 2024 campaign rally where a gunman opened fire on Trump and the crowd.
“Rather than running and hiding, President Trump fought back ten times harder against the COMMUNISTS trying to destroy our country,” Tuberville wrote on X.

Trump was speaking at an outdoor campaign rally when the gunman fired from the roof of a nearby building, striking the then-former president in the right ear.
Rally attendee Corey Comperatore was killed while protecting his family. David Dutch and James Copenhaver were also wounded in the attack.
Secret Service counter-snipers shot and killed the gunman.
The bloodied Trump raised his fist as agents moved him from the stage and called on the crowd to “fight,” creating one of the defining images of the 2024 presidential campaign.
A bipartisan U.S. House task force later concluded that the shooting was preventable and identified major failures in planning, communication, and security surrounding the rally.
Tuberville has remained one of Trump’s most outspoken allies in the Senate and has regularly credited the president with reshaping the Republican Party.
Trump endorsed Tuberville’s campaign for governor, and the former Auburn football coach won the Republican nomination in May.
Tuberville faces former U.S. Sen. Doug Jones, the Democratic nominee, in the November 3 general election.
