The Troy Trojans baseball program completed a monumental achievement over the weekend while hosting their first ever Super Regional, handling Little Rock in the best-of-three series to clinch a trip to the College World Series in Omaha.
With victories of 12-2 and 7-2 on Friday and Saturday, the Trojans punched their ticket to the biggest stage in the sport, delighting a record crowd of more than 13,000 for the historic event and giving Troy fans one of the biggest moments in the history of the entire athletic department.
“We have elite players, elite arms. Our culture wins,” head coach Skylar Meade said. “Itβs a long, hard road and things donβt happen at the pace you want. We all get that. But if you do stay the course, then youβll eventually get rewarded.”
It’s tough to put into words just how impressive this accomplishment is for the Trojans, especially after the way the regional in Gainesville started with a defeat. In the most unlikely circumstances possible, Troy came out of Florida by defeating a Gators team twice they were overmatched on paper against and got the chance to host a Super Regional in front of their fans.
Despite the incredible accomplishments they’ve already made though, the job is not finished.
Times are yet to be released, but Troy will face off this Friday against West Virginia in the first game of the double-elimination showdown in Omaha.
