The Troy Trojans made some major noise on Sunday in their elimination game against the Ole Miss Rebels at the College World Series in Omaha, toppling the Rebels by a score of 12-8 to not only stay alive, but also eliminate a major SEC powerhouse.
After falling behind 6-2 early, the Trojan bats woke up and it was seven unanswered runs that ultimately propelled the team to victory.
It was a home run from Jimmy Janicki in the seventh inning that tied things up and completed the rally for Troy before a further offensive explosion was able to propel them ahead and ultimately win the game.
After dropping the first game of the double-elimination tournament to West Virginia, Troy was on the cusp of being sent home earlier than they wanted to be, but instead they sent Ole Miss on a disappointing flight back to Oxford and have their chance once again to stay alive tomorrow.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Trojans will take on the Mountaineers once again in an elimination game, sending the loser out of the tournament and the winner one step closer to the championship series. Troy was competitive in the first loss, falling 7-5 and hanging right in until the end, so perhaps beating West Virginia is not out of the question at all.
Notably though, this team has already made the entire state of Alabama proud, and no matter what happens on Tuesday, it has been an incredible run for these Trojans.
