College football season is officially back this weekend with the SEC returning to action both in the state of Alabama and across the South!

After a long offseason full of negative headlines surrounding the greater landscape of the sport, fans have never been more ready to see actual games on their television. While week one doesn’t always present the most exciting overall slate of games, there are still a few for fans to sink their teeth into.

Here are the three non-Alabama or Auburn games you need to be keeping an eye on this weekend.

Clemson @ No. 11 LSU: Saturday, August 5, 6:30 p.m.

This is without a doubt the marquee game of the entire weekend, and all the noise around LSU this offseason has folks ready to get their first look at what the Lane Kiffin era in Baton Rouge actually looks like. In this matchup of Tigers vs. Tigers, the home squad is around a 10-point favorite with Clemson flying a little bit under the radar following a tough year for Dabo Swinney and company. Regardless, they will try to come in and spoil the party for college football’s most chaotic program.

A ton is gonna be shown here about both teams, and it should reveal just how legit the LSU roster made up of countless transfers is, as well as how much fight Clemson is going to have in a year they enter as an afterthought.

No. 24 Louisville vs. No. 9 Ole Miss (in Nashville): Sunday, August 6, 6:30 p.m.

The nice part about Labor Day weekend being “week one” is that games are spread across the whole weekend — and this year’s slate presents an especially interesting storyline: Pete Golding starts his first full season as Ole Miss head coach. After a dramatic offseason and Lane Kiffin’s departure, Golding still has one of the best quarterbacks in the nation in Trinidad Chambliss, fresh off a dazzling showing in the College Football Playoff.

Having Chambliss back makes the expectations high for the Rebels, but this is a solid Louisville team who, much like Clemson, is very much flying under the radar. Ole Miss is favored by just under a touchdown and  will try to prove they can get it done without Kiffin and his staff.

Wisconsin vs. No. 4 Notre Dame (in Green Bay): Sunday, August 6, 6:30 p.m.

While this may be well outside the scope of fans in the South, Notre Dame is one of the early favorites to win the national title and there should be a vested interest in watching quarterback CJ Carr, who is the odds-on favorite to win the Heisman Trophy. The Irish do not have a ton of tests on their schedule but this is one of them. However, they are still favored by three touchdowns to handle a Wisconsin program which is trying to bounce back from a couple of rough seasons.
