The Auburn Tigers have been in some dark days over the last half decade or so, and the program is going to try to climb out of what have unquestionably been some lean years.
With that being said, they are still among the most notable programs in college football, and some stats revealed by “The Next Round” show just how much so.
Over the last 50 years, ‘Next Round’ took a look at the teams with the most perfect seasons (zero losses) in that period, and while Alabama being on top is not much of a surprise, Auburn being right behind them certainly is.

The Tigers tied for second with Miami and Nebraska, posting three perfect seasons compared to just four for Alabama.
Somewhat controversially, the three years came with only one chance at a national championship in 2010 with Cam Newton. The 2004 perfect season saw Auburn left out of the BCS National Championship, and when they did not record a loss in 1993, they were on postseason probation for NCAA violations.
Schools like Clemson, LSU, and Georgia — all of whom have multiple national titles in this period — are not able to boast the three perfect seasons like the Tigers have. Though Auburn fans would give the two back in exchange for one-loss national title seasons, it does put into perspective that historically speaking, this program is among the elite in the sport.
Now, it’s going to be up to new head coach Alex Golesh to find a way to get them back to that point.
