The Auburn Tigers opening game in Atlanta next week against the Baylor Bears just got a little bit of extra juice.

Announced this week by the program, team legend Cam Newton is going to serve as the honorary captain for the game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, but there’s a twist that comes with Newton’s inclusion in the festivities.

Baylor is going to have its own Heisman winner on the sidelines in program legend Robert Griffin III, who was drafted one year after Newton as the No. 2 overall selection back in 2012. While Griffin III had a strong rookie season, much like Newton, injuries kept him from reaching his full potential in the professional ranks.

The game, which is one of the marquee showdowns of week one, is going to take place at 2:30 p.m. CST as the kickoff matchup of the Alex Golesh era.

After going on the road and defeating Baylor last season, the Bears are going to be hungry for revenge, while Golesh and Auburn would love to get things started on the right foot.

Football is almost here, and in just over 10 days from now, fans in the Yellowhammer State are going to get the chance to see their teams take the field.
