Hispanic entertainers and pro wrestlers will be in the spotlight Saturday at the 20th annual Fiesta Birmingham in Linn Park.
The festival’s theme is ¡Somos Familia! (Feels Like Family!) and it runs from noon to 8 p.m.
The annual event has celebrated and educated thousands of people about Alabama’s growing Hispanic community. More than 20 Hispanic cultures are represented at the festival featuring the best of art, music, dance, food, and culture.
The lineup includes Los Norteños de Ojinaga, Adolescentes Orquesta, Los Nuevos Relampagos and other local artists. Authentic Hispanic and Latin cuisine will be available to the festival attendees.
Among the entertainment is a fan favorite – Lucha Libre. This event will feature the Blue Demon from Mexico, Iguana hailing from Guatemala, and other famous Mexican professional wrestling acts.
Rebecca Garner, Fiesta BHAM 2022, co-president said, “Latino people are proud of their countries and our diverse communities, which are unique and rich in culture, and sharing our customs and traditions is both educational and fun for attendees.”
Guests will have the opportunity to receive free health services, including FREE Covid 19 vaccines and boosters, as well as free HPV vaccinations. This is being sponsored by health and wellness participants including Children’s of Alabama, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama, and Jefferson County Department of Health.
Proceeds will support scholarships for Hispanic students in Alabama. In the last 19 years, Fiesta has awarded more than $90,000 in scholarships through the Arte Latino Scholarship and the Logros Latino Scholarships. This year, Fiesta will be awarding an additional $20,000 in scholarships to celebrate the event’s 20th anniversary.
