Scofield honored as ‘Guardian of Small Business’

For his work in expanding broadband connectivity, State Sen. Clay Scofield received the Guardian of the Small Business Award today in Montgomery.

“Senator Scofield has been a strong advocate for small business, and he has taken the lead in working to expand broadband in rural Alabama,” said Rosemary Elebash, state director of the National Federation of Independent Business. “Just as businesses couldn’t compete in the 20th century without a telephone, businesses in the 21st century need a fast, affordable, always-on Internet connection.

“Rural broadband is essential if Alabama is going to attract new industries and help local businesses and communities stay competitive.”

The award is given to legislators for their effort in aiding small business.

The NFIB Alabama Leadership Council cited Scofield “for his outstanding leadership on small business issues.” The senator has received a 100% NFIB voting record since being elected in 2010.

The NFIB is the United States’ leading small business advocacy organization.
