The UAB-Troy baseball series has been one-sided in recent years, with the Trojans winning four of the teams’ last five meetings.
As the programs prepare to battle again on Wednesday afternoon at Troy’s Riddle-Pace Field, they look forward to what projects to be one of the most competitive and high-stakes recent iterations of the rivalry.
Both the Blazers (6-1, 0-0 American) and the Trojans (6-1, 0-0 Sun Belt) are off to red-hot starts to the season and stand among the nation’s top mid-majors.
Troy, which made an appearance in the D1Baseball preseason top 25 for the first time in program history, has maintained its ranked status, currently sitting at 21st in the polls.

Led by fourth-year head coach Skylar Meade, who is the school record holder for wins in a coach’s first three seasons with 109, the Trojans are on pace to post a winning record for the 11th consecutive campaign.
Troy has played two series and has swept them both, winning six games against Bellarmine and Northwestern State by a combined total of 43 runs. The team’s only loss came at #23 Auburn.
Meade’s squad boasts a potent offense led by junior infielder Sean Darnell, who is currently batting .542 with a 1.584 OPS, senior infielder Blake Cavill, who leads the team in walks, senior outfielder Steven Meier, who sports a .407 average, and junior catcher Brooks Bryan, whose February 23rd grand slam powered the Trojans to a dominant victory.

UAB, on the other hand, is a more unexpected success story. The Blazers haven’t matched Troy’s recent run of dominance; in fact, they haven’t broken .500 over the course of a season since 2022.
After posting a 26-29 record last year, UAB was picked to finish third-to-last in the American Athletic Conference in 2025.
However, fourth-year head coach Casey Dunn’s squad has emphatically proven doubters wrong through seven games, with an opening loss against Maryland marking the sole blemish on the Blazers’ ledger. Powered by AAC preseason Pitcher of the Year Colin Daniel, senior pitcher Cole Cheatham, and senior outfielder Logan Braunschweig, the Blazers have picked up victories over Towson and Mercyhurst and swept South Alabama.
Braunschweig, who is slashing .458/.606/.758 on the year, was recently named the AAC’s Player of the Week.

Although Troy will be favored going into Wednesday’s contest, which begins at 4 p.m. and airs on ESPN+, the Blazers will look to flip the script of the rivalry and extend their six-game winning streak.
