The Miles College Golden Bears will host the first-ever home playoff game in school history after clinching the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship with a a 53-25 win over Clark Atlanta.
The Golden Bears will get to play the first round of the NCAA Division II football tournament against Carson-Newman this Saturday at Sloan-Alumni Stadium.
According to HBCU Buzz, it’s Miles’ first SIAC title since 2019, a year that also was the last time the Golden Bears appeared in the playoffs. The program which has existed since only 2012 is now making their third playoff appearance in their history.
After an 0-2 start, the team has won nine games in a row to claim the title and the home playoff game.
Head coach Sam Shade, who took over in 2022 and went 1-9 in his first season, has completely turned the program around and has led the team to a 16-5 record over the last two years.
