Johni Broome named SEC player of the year after massive season

The Auburn Tigers have just wrapped up their best regular season in the history of the program which concluded with an SEC regular season title during perhaps the strongest year the conference as a whole has ever had.

Holding a No. 1 ranking in the AP Poll for a program record eight consecutive weeks, Auburn’s 27-4 record will likely culminate in the Tigers securing the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament regardless of what happens this week in Nashville.

None of it would have been possible without their superstar big man Johni Broome, who has earned the much deserved honor of being named the SEC Player of the Year:

Broome will have a great chance to win the National Player of the Year as well in a heated battle with Duke Blue Devils freshman sensation Cooper Flagg.

On the year, Broome averaged a double double with 18.6 points per game and 10.6 rebounds per game along with 3.3 assists per game With 17 double doubles on the year and a ridiculous 77 in his career, Broome is second among active D-1 players in the feat in their careers.

He saved his best for last this past weekend with a 34 point performance against Alabama which fell just short of securing another win for his Tigers, though they already had the conference title wrapped up.

Now in the final games of his Auburn career, Broome is going to try to cap off this magical season correctly by pushing for another SEC title and potentially even a national championship.
