The Auburn Tigers will host the California Golden Bears at Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday, completing the second half of the home-and-home series.
Last season, Auburn headed out West early in the season to play Cal in their house, a game that was remembered for its lack of offense and the Tigers coming away with an ugly 14-10 win en route to a season in which there were issues in the passing game all year long.
With a year at Auburn under his belt for Payton Thorne, along with a serious upgrade in the playmaker department for the offense, Thorne wants to turn things around and week one’s 300-yard, 4 touchdown first half performance was a good start.
During an appearance with the Next Round on Tuesday, Thorne recalled last year’s matchup against California as the Tigers get ready to play them once again:
As Auburn prepares to host Cal Saturday, here’s Payton Thorne’s takeaway from the Tigers trip to Berkeley last season:
“What I remember from that game was honestly just that I felt bad for anybody that was watching…it was about the most boring game offensively that I can… pic.twitter.com/2kImagCAvT

“No, not really,” Thorne said when asked if he even bothers to heavily review the film from last year’s showing. “What I remember from that game was honestly just that I felt bad for anybody that was watching…it was about the most boring game offensively that I can remember being a part of.”
Thorne will look to bring fireworks to the game this time around as Auburn seeks a 2-0 start.
