U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) is worried about what Democrats will do if they take back the majority in Congress anytime soon.
The Democratic Party is hoping it will retake the majority in the U.S. House and Senate after the 2026 midterm elections with the help of Democratic Socialists who have won several primaries across the country this year.
Palmer, who just won the GOP nomination for Alabama’s Second Congressional District, discussed the issue Tuesday on WVNN’s “The Yaffee Program.”
“You could blame that on on on the members of Congress and other politicians for not meeting the expectations of the people,” Palmer said. “But can you imagine if the Democrats were to get the majority this time, and these Democratic Socialists joining forces with the Squad to to determine who chairs a committee, who is the Speaker of the House? It would be it would be an unmitigated disaster.”
Palmer decried the current leftward shift of his colleagues on the other side of the aisle.
“Well, I don’t know that there’s a lot of moderates,” he said. “I think a moderate Democrat today is just a plain old socialist and the people that are getting elected in these heavily urban areas, like in New York and and Denver and some of these other places, are really communist.”
“They talk about taxing wealthy people, but that’s not taxation,” he added. “That’s confiscation that they’re really talking about. So I think you’ve got the anti-Semitism that that’s grown within the Democratic Party, particularly among the ranks of these people, is leading some of the Democrats to to they’re going to have to make a decision on where they’re going to be, and so I think you could have some of them declaring themselves independents, and and if enough of them do that, that could impact who gets elected to leadership on the Democratic side.”
The congressman admitted that Americans are concerned about affordability, but argued that Democrat policies created the inflation problem during the Biden administration.
“The first two years Biden was in office, he had Democrat majorities in both houses, and he increased the deficit by $8.4 trillion,” he explained. “And that’s what we’re trying to dig out from under. That’s very inflationary, and I just I was…Inflation in June of 2022, months into the Biden administration, was 9.1%.
“Obviously, gas is higher than we want it to be,” he continued. “I don’t like paying the high gas prices, but inflation last month was 3.5%, and I just hope people understand that we can’t do this in a year or two to get things back where they need to be. And plus, the war in Iran has really made things a bit tougher, but we’re going to get there. They just got to give us time.”
