Adam Schiff tries to pin down Greg Cook on 2020 election

During a Senate Judiciary hearing on President Donald Trump’s nominees this week, Alabama Supreme Court Associate Justice Greg Cook was asked several times by Democrats whether he thinks former President Joe Biden won the 2020 election.

Cook has been nominated to be a judge for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama.

U.S. Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) asked Cook about the election between Biden and Trump.

“In the 2020 election, who won between Donald Trump and Joe Biden?” Schiff asked.

“Well, Joe Biden was certified by joint session of Congress, and so as a matter of law, he was the elected president,” Cook answered.

Schiff, who seemed frustrated at the way Cook responded, continued his line of questioning on the matter.

“And as a matter of fact? You’re somehow separating the law and facts? As a matter of actual fact, who won the election in 2020?” Schiff asked.

“It’s a fact that the Electoral College vote was more for Joe Biden,” Cook responded.

Trump still contends that the election was stolen from him because of fraud and the way it was handled during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Democrats have spent years trying to trip up Trump nominees over the issue.

U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) asked Cook about the riots at the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

“Was the Capitol attacked on Jan. 6, 2021?” Blumenthal asked.

“There was a lot of violence and vandalism at the Capitol and attacks on law enforcement,” Cook responded. “So I hesitate to use the word attack just because it would be something that would apply to everybody.”

Despite opposition from Democrats in the committee, Cook received high praise from U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) during the hearing.

“I have every faith and confidence in his ability to answer this call,” Britt said. “Your character is unmatched. Your diligence, your intellect. I know that you will uphold the Constitution and apply the law faithfully in every single circumstance and that you will be thoughtful about the role you’re stepping into.”
