U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) is blasting former President Joe Biden’s Department of Justice (DOJ) for going after innocent conservatives in the Yellowhammer State.
Tuesday, Britt accused former Special Prosecutor Jack Smith of targeting conservatives in Alabama for merely donating to President Donald Trump.
“These are checks from hardworking Alabamians who donated to President Trump. Jack Smith subpoenaed them and turned over their personal information, including their home addresses, to the Biden DOJ,” Britt said. “It’s despicable. Jack Smith and the Biden DOJ blatantly targeted conservatives, and everyone involved must be held accountable.”

Smith led a team of DOJ investigators during the Biden administration. The investigation of called “Artic Frost.” He ultimately brought charges against Trump in the Mar-a-Lago documents case and another related to the president’s actions on Jan. 6, 2021.
The former prosecutor testified in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee Tuesday, as several Republican lawmakers accused him and Biden’s DOJ of political prosecutions.
Britt, who sit on the Judiciary Committee, use her time during the hearing to continue criticizing Smith’s actions against Trump and his allies.
“So based on the records released by Chairman Grassley, it appears the actual reason for the NDOS’s was to avoid giving those members the opportunity to challenge the subpoenas pursuant to the protections that they enjoyed under the Constitution speech and debate clause,” Britt said. “At the beginning, you said that you had no partisan loyalty and you said you were very familiar with all of this law, but you and your team were aware of the protections and chose a course of action that nonetheless was designed to undermine them, to undermine Senator Graham, to undermine Senator Cruz, Senator Holly, Senator Blackburn.”
“It’s ironic to me that in carrying out an investigation framed by many, particularly on the left, as a righteous crusade to defend democracy and the Constitution, your team took actions to directly undermine the separation of powers at the heart of the Constitution. Fruit of the poisonous tree continues to grow,” she added.
The case was eventually dismissed after Trump’s 2024 election win because of a Justice Department legal opinion that sitting presidents cannot face federal prosecution.
