Bradley Byrne, Alabama congressman from 2014 to 2021, now leading the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce, will retire in 2027, the group announced Thursday.
Doing so fulfills the pledge he made in 2021 to serve five years in the role.
“Earlier today, the Mobile Chamber Board of Directors was notified of my intention to retire, and my last day as president will be June 30, 2027,” Byrne said.
“It has been an honor to serve as president and CEO of the Chamber the past four years and to be part of the organization’s remarkable progress. The honor of being named one of the top three chambers in the nation is a testament to our Board’s leadership and to our great Chamber team. When I was hired, I was asked to commit to serve five years, and that date is now one year away.”
Byrne has led the Chamber through a stretch of significant growth during his tenure, including its recognition as one of the top three chambers of commerce in the nation, expanded regional economic development efforts and a strengthened role as a leading voice for the Mobile business community, the group reports.
The Board of Directors will determine the process for naming a successor. Byrne will remain in his current role through the transition.
