BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Patton Creek Carmike Cinema in Hoover is set host a star-studded premier for Woodlawn, the highly-anticipated Erwin Brothers movie that was set and filmed in Birmingham. The red carpet event will take place Thursday evening, Oct. 15th, the day before Woodlawn hits theaters nationwide.
The film is based on true events surrounding the 1974 Banks vs. Woodlawn football game at Birmingham’s Legion Field. It still holds the record for largest attendance at an Alabama high school football game. The film follows Woodlawn running back Tony Nathan’s recruitment by famed University of Alabama Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant (played by Academy Award winner Jon Voight) during a period when the state was embroiled in racial tensions.
The “Woodlawn Loves Sweet Home Alabama Red Carpet Event” is being presented by talk radio icons Rick & Bubba, Yellowhammer and well-known Christian evangelist Scott Dawson.

∙ Caleb Castille, the up and coming actor who plays football star Tony Nathan in Woodlawn
∙ Tony Nathan, Former University of Alabama and Miami Dolphins standout whose life plays a central role in Woodlawn
∙ Andy and Jon Erwin, the filmmaking duo who’ve put Alabama on Hollywood’s radar with a series of hits
∙ Lance Nichols, the television and film star whose credits are too extensive to list. He plays Tony Nathan’s father in Woodlawn.
∙ Cliff Sims, CEO of Yellowhammer News and host of the daily Yellowhammer Radio program

Talk radio host Rick Burgess also raved about Jon Voight’s depiction of Alabama Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant.
“This is the Bear Bryant performance we’ve all been waiting for,” he said.
The red carpet event will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the movie will air on at least six screens in the theater at 7 p.m.
