Doug Jones receives ‘F’ grade on pro-life issues — ‘Must be held accountable for his abortion extremism’

The national female-led pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) on Wednesday released its pro-life scorecards ahead of the November 3 general election.

Scorecards are intended to be used as a tool to inform voters of exactly where their elected officials stand with a simple letter grade system, backed up with voting and leadership history.

U.S. Senator Doug Jones (D-AL) has been demoted to an “F” grade on the latest scorecard “for failure to vote earlier this year in support of protecting unborn babies from painful late-term abortion,” according to a release from SBA List.

Meanwhile, U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL) holds an “A” grade from the group.

“Our Scorecard shows that pro-abortion Democrats led by Kamala Harris have voted in lockstep in favor of late-term abortion, taxpayer-funded abortion, and even infanticide,” stated SBA List president Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Senator Doug Jones is no better – when asked earlier this year about his stance on late-term abortions performed after the point at which science has proven unborn children feel pain, Senator Jones laughed and called the issue ‘stupid.’ He must be held accountable for his abortion extremism.”

Jones has been a staunch pro-abortion advocate while in the U.S. Senate, previously voting against the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act two separate times. That legislation would prohibit abortion after 20 weeks’ gestation based on scientific research suggesting that fetuses are capable of feeling pain by that point in pregnancy, per National Review. A report released recently suggested that fetal pain is in fact possible even earlier in pregnancy than 20 weeks.

Alabama’s junior U.S. senator also previously voted against banning using federal funds for abortions.

The incumbent Democrat will face Republican nominee Tommy Tuberville in November’s general election. Tuberville has been endorsed by the National Right to Life Committee in the race.

“Anti-Trump Democrat Doug Jones’ pro-abortion record and opposition to pro-life legislation shows just how blatantly he disregards the values of Alabamians,” commented National Republican Senatorial Committee spokesperson Paige Lindgren. “Alabama deserves a Senator that is a vocal supporter of the pro-life movement and willing to stand up for their conservative values in Congress.”
