Alabama Farmers Federation (ALFA) is backing U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) in the June 16 Republican primary runoff for the U.S. Senate seat, throwing its support behind the congressman after previously endorsing Steve Marshall during the primary election.
The endorsement by the political action committee of the Alabama Farmers Federation comes after Marshall narrowly missed advancing to the runoff against former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson.
“Our grassroots structure is all about relationships, and Barry Moore gets that,” Alabama Farmers Federation President Jimmy Parnell said. “From his time in the Alabama House to serving Alabama in the nation’s capital, Barry has kept people at the forefront of his work. He’s stood strong on tough issues and remembered the people who elected him. Barry understands the challenges our farm and rural communities face and has continually proven that during his tenure on the House Ag Committee. He is poised to be a fighter for Alabama in the U.S. Senate. We are pleased to support Barry Moore June 16 and beyond.”
Moore finished first in the seven-candidate Republican primary field earlier this month with 39.18% of the vote, while Hudson secured the second runoff spot with 25.63%. Marshall finished third with 24.53%, falling roughly 5,300 votes short of advancing.
During the primary, Marshall had earned the backing of FarmPAC along with endorsements from Alabama sheriffs and the state’s district attorneys.
Moore entered the runoff as the top vote-getter in the field and carried President Donald Trump’s “Complete and Total Endorsement” during the primary campaign. He also won a majority of counties statewide.
The Republican runoff election is scheduled for Tuesday, June 16.
