Often working behind the scenes in difficult and sometimes dangerous conditions, Alabama linemen play a critical role in keeping the lights on for communities across the state.
Alabama energy leaders, elected officials, and utility representatives will gather Wednesday in Montgomery for Alabama Lineman Appreciation Day.
The Energy Institute of Alabama will host the event Wednesday, April 15 at 10 a.m. at Dixie Electric Cooperative on Atlanta Highway, bringing together representatives from utilities and organizations that serve communities statewide.
Participating organizations include Alabama Power Company, Alabama Rural Electric Association, Energy Southeast, Electric Cities of Alabama, PowerSouth Energy, and the Tennessee Valley Authority.
According to the Energy Institute of Alabama, the annual observance recognizes lineworkers who restore electricity during outages, often working in hazardous weather conditions.
The program will include the presentation of the annual “Lineman of the Year” award.
Scheduled speakers include Energy Institute of Alabama President and CEO Clay Scofield, State Sen. April Weaver (R-Brierfield), meteorologist Josh Johnson, as well as local linemen and business leaders.
National Lineman Appreciation Day is observed annually on April 18 and recognizes the contributions of lineworkers who help ensure reliable electricity service.
