Alabama is in the running for a new Carrier manufacturing plant representing nearly $434 million in investment and almost 500 jobs.

Carrier Global Corp., one of the world’s largest heating, ventilation and air conditioning manufacturers, is evaluating Alabama alongside competing sites, including Fort Worth, Texas, and Virginia for the new operation, according to multiple reports.

The facility would manufacture cooling systems to meet a rapidly growing demand from data centers, according to Birmingham Business Journal.

If Carrier selects Fort Worth, documents presented to city officials call for at least $433.8 million in capital investment by the end of 2028 and a minimum of 495 jobs by the end of 2029. Those positions would carry an average annual salary of at least $75,000.

Fort Worth is offering Carrier a seven-year tax abatement valued at approximately $10.9 million and plans to nominate the company for a Texas Enterprise Zone grant estimated at another $2.5 million.

The proposed Texas site is a roughly 1.2 million-square-foot industrial facility currently under construction in the AllianceTexas development.

Carrier is expected to make a final site selection during the third quarter of 2026.

The potential investment comes as Carrier aggressively expands its data center business. The company reported last month that data center orders increased more than 300% during the second quarter as demand for cooling infrastructure continues to surge alongside artificial intelligence and cloud computing growth.

Carrier has also previously announced plans to invest $1 billion in U.S. manufacturing, research and development and workforce expansion over five years.
