The Alabama Forestry Association announced its endorsement of Rhett Marques for Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District ahead of the August 11 special election.

The special election follows the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision this week clearing the Alabama Legislature’s redrawn congressional map for the 2026 elections.

The new map reshapes the 2nd District, currently held by U.S. Rep. Shomari Figures (D-Mobile), and is expected to favor Republicans. Votes cast in the district during the May 19 primary were voided, triggering the August 11 special primary under the new lines.

Marques, a native of Enterprise and businessman, has made private property rights and reducing regulatory burdens central to his campaign. The AFA represents Alabama’s forestry community, including forest products manufacturers, landowners, loggers, wood dealers, and foresters.

“Alabama’s forestry industry needs leaders who understand the economic impact of our industry and the importance of maintaining a favorable business climate for forest landowners and forest products manufacturers,” said Chris Isaacson, President and CEO of the Alabama Forestry Association. “Rhett Marques understands the critical role forestry plays in supporting jobs, driving economic activity, and sustaining rural communities across Alabama. Alabama Forestry Association is proud to endorse Rhett Marques for Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District.”

Marques welcomed the endorsement. “I’m proud to be endorsed by the Alabama Forestry Association, and I’d be honored to earn your vote on August 11,” Marques said. “In Congress, I will protect our private property rights and defend the Christian conservative values that have made Alabama’s timber industry a source of jobs, opportunity, and the American Dream for generations of hardworking Alabama families.”

The special election is August 11.
