A legendary Alabama broadcaster says goodbye. For now.

After spending more than 40 years on TV, with more than 30 years covering sports and news in Alabama, WVTM morning news anchor Rick Karle said goodbye to his TV audience this morning. Karle spent much of his career as sports director and anchor at Birmingham’s WBRC, before making the switch to the news anchor chair at NBC 13 four years ago. Over his career Rick Karle racked up 24 Emmy awards.

Karle, who turns 66 next week, isn’t going away. He said he will remain in the Birmingham area and will focus on writing. He’s known for his in depth interviews and musings about life, which he publishes to his social media accounts.
