7 Things: New State House; fear of ‘book bans’ lacks reason; and more …

7. After a series of high-profile banking failures, the Biden administration wants you to know that everything is fine. President Joe Biden said government action is working, “These actions are going to make sure that the banking system is safe and sound, and that includes protecting small businesses across the country who need to make payroll for workers.”

6. Attorney General Steve Marshall has endorsed a plan to make it easier to release bodycam because more bodycam footage is needed to show what happens in interactions with law enforcement. State Rep. Juandalynn Givan (D-Birmingham) sponsored the bill and is calling it, “a safeguard to public safety.”

5. An allegedly stupid juror allegedly convinced other stupid jurors to vote a man they thought was innocent guilty to send him to jail for life instead of giving him the death penalty. The judge gave him death and that could now be carried out, so that juror is coming forward.

4. Gardendale cops killed a suspect in Cordova who fired at them during a narcotics raid. Johnny Karris (47) who had an active warrant and was pronounced dead on the scene, no officers were injured.

3. More cable news craziness with the news that former President Donald Trump will smartly be doing a CNN town hall after years of trashing them. Meanwhile, Fox News has reportedly leaked footage of former host Tucker Carlson talking about how bad Fox News’ premium site Fox Nation is in an attempt to disparage him but makes him sound reasonable and likeable.

2. Local parents have complained about the curriculum and materials available at school systems across the state, aldotcom’s “education” “reporter” doesn’t know that removing these books is not “banning books.” In an article, she mentions a Black Lives Matter book being removed from Shelby County Schools. However, that book can still be obtained in Shelby County and notes only 24 books have been challenged statewide.

1. Two things anger citizens when discussing the Alabama Legislature: A new State House and a pay raise. The new State House is needed and coming. It will be a political battle, but the search is on after a “Request for Architectural Services Proposal” shows the state is seeking a 2.5-acre site in Montgomery.
