Former U.S. Senator Doug Jones (D-Mountain Brook) is once again calling on his opponent in the governor’s race to face off against him in a debate.
Jones, the Democratic nominee for Alabama Governor, is claiming that U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn), the Republican nominee, is ducking questions from the state’s voters.
“Why would you debate somebody that believes in socialism, communism, men and women sports defund the police because you kick his butt,” Tuberville said about the idea recently. “That’s why.”
Jones responded to the senator’s comments during his Sunday livestream.
“I’ve got a forum. I don’t need another forum. That’s not the point. It’s not about me. I’ve got a forum right here that he never does,” Jones said. “I’ve got town halls that we’re going to that he never does. He never gets out anywhere where he really asks questions of people.”

Jones said he held town halls in Birmingham and Mobile last week, each drawing “2 or 300 people,” and challenged Tuberville to set dates.
“Come on, Coach, let’s let’s get a couple of dates and let’s talk about these issues,” Jones said. “I don’t think he’ll do it. Don’t think his people will let him.”
Part of Jones’ Sunday livestream also got heated as he dismissed some Alabamians sending questions into the broadcast, calling them as stupid, dumb and crazy.
“Oh, another really just absolutely stupid comment,” Jones said. “I hear you want to put tampon machines in boys’ bathrooms. What a what a really dumb comment. I mean, maybe you’re just joking. I’m gonna give you a break, John. I’m gonna assume that that was just a joke.”
Alabama lawmakers have taken up the issue repeatedly, including legislation requiring students to use multi-occupancy restrooms matching their biological sex. Jones offered no position on it.
He returned to the same commenter minutes later, after a question about his conduct at a presidential State of the Union address.
“I’m not even going to dignify the rest of your Crap!” Jones said.
Scanning for the next question to take, Jones told viewers: “I’m gonna try to find one more that’s not crazy.”
He closed by addressing the critics watching.
“Thanks everybody for tuning in tonight. I do really appreciate it. Even the trolls that are following me all the time,” Jones said. “The fact that you’re just engaged. Is is potentially a good sign, I guess.”
