The Birmingham Stallions will attempt to continue making history this season when they try to win their fourth straight league title and second consecutive UFL Championship after claiming victory in the inaugural season in 2024.
After winning the USFL in 2022 and 2023, the league combined with the XFL to form the UFL, but the new competition was not too much for the Stallions, who were able to claim a three-peat. Now moving forward, Birmingham is getting set to try to make it four in a row, but they’ll be doing so with some new rules in the league.
According to a release from the league, the UFL is moving the result of a touchback on a kickoff from the offense starting at the 35-yard line, a 10 yard increase from the 25 last year. Kickoffs will also start at the 30-yard line rather than the 20-yard line as they had.

In an effort to make kickoff returns more exciting, the ‘dynamic’ formation first adopted in these leagues and subsequently taken on by the NFL, the groups of 10 players facing each other will now start at the 40-yard line rather than the 20, giving the returner more room to build up a head of steam and try to get free.
In other significant rule change news, the onside kick – which was previously an option along with the fourth down and 12-yard scrimmage play at the 28-yard line – has been eliminated as an option. Now, if teams are down late in games and want to get the ball back, the fourth and 12 is their only option.
All the rule changes could make the league look different, but the Birmingham faithful will hope the end result is the same as its been the last three seasons.
